stretched parallelograms of sun
illuminate the breakfast nook
three honking geese cut dappled silence with their wings
i look up from my paper to catch their tails
an organized climb of rattan shelves
boast of something a girl once only dreamed of
maybe a neurodivergent alcoholic anorexic addict
just needs a second chance
a new start
to advocate for herself
her freedom
her finances
the filtered light pooling in from the east
the third floor two bedroom the world told her wouldn’t be enough
but
is everything
the same world that told her
she wouldn’t be enough
but
is everything
how about we make a new world
right here at the kitchen table
round and eternal
an open invite to possibility
they say it’s just a table
they say it’s just an apartment
they say they’re just shelves
they say they’re just geese
they say she’s just broken
so how about it
how about we make a new world
right here at this kitchen table
