January has been a month of slow simmering, wooden-spoon-soft-stirring, and savoring rich velvety gifts as they illuminate my core.
It doesn't work to be constantly striving. I've tried. And aren't we all just tired?
This month, instead of sinking into the bullshit narrative that it [I] will never be enough, I've deployed deliberate pushback. Slowing down long enough to listen. Pausing to take note of bizarro curiosities. Sliding my phone to the far edge of the couch until after I've meditated, written, taken ten box breaths.
This month, I sat down long enough to notice the feel of my dog's aging scapula under the blade edge of my thumb as I stroked her back to sleep. The way the starlit snow-dust sparkled a silly twitch onto the tip of my nose as it fell over me and my daughter that night the blizzard came to Kansas City. The warm buttery spread of comfort that coated my belly when I thought to gift it a full, expansive inhale.
These things might seem small. Frivolous. But if we can't be fully awake to the process, dance with the decadence of the sensory aliveness, draw down the opulence of the mundane → how will the Universe ever receive the signal to send more?
So here's the journal prompt:
→ What are 5 things you have more than enough of in this moment?
→ What are five things you can see, touch, feel, taste and smell from your seat as you read this?
→ What are five things “5 Years Ago You” could never have imagined possible, that you are living right now?
~
Let's start there. I'd love to know your answers. And where you are in YOUR process of slow deliberate January living:)
CURIO CABINET:
January things I am loving:
ON WRITING : Jeannine Ouellette'm Substack: Writing In The Dark. I am currently working through her Essay In 12 Steps
Pushing past my comfort zone into a fresh take on the craft and practicing a new style of prose is breathing life into my creative practice, and I highly recommend it! Especially if you are feeling stuck, static, or stale and need a boost! .. Let me know if you decide to do her Essay in 12 steps! I'd love to see your work!!!
ON READING: The book “On Our Best Behavior”
“NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A groundbreaking exploration of the ancient rules women unwittingly follow in order to be considered “good,” revealing how the Seven Deadly Sins still control and distort our lives and illuminating a path toward a more balanced, spiritually complete way to live.”
I have this on audible AND hardback. I'm also taking notes in my field journal. Working to incorporate these findings into my next Wild Power Course. 7 Chakras, 7 Deadly Sins. Coincidence? I think not. I want to start a book club but probably shouldn't. But if you've read this, I'd love to talk to you about it. Seriously. Mind-blowing stuff here. If you’re tired of playing “good girl” and are ready to step into your power, this one’s for you.
ON RITUAL
These are the incense bricks I use every day for my morning ritual and am obsessed with:
These are the notebook/journal/sketchbooks I use: Materials are so important. You want objects that draw you back to them every morning so you are EXCITED to interact with them.
I hope this finds you cozied up to your own rituals and tending to the gorgeous garden that is you.
Also, in case no one has told you lately.
BABE…
You are doing an fucking INCREDIBLE job. You are working so hard. You are building a beautiful life. You are breaking free from old patterns. You are doing it differently than your mom did. You are modeling for your friends and your kids what it means to be an embodied human in a fractured world. You are strong as all hell. And more powerful than you can rightly imagine. The invisible work you are doing right now is directly impacting the people in your circle, and rippling out to those beyond. I know a times it feels impossibly lonely. I know some days you want to give up. Please don’t. We need you. We need your flavor of aliveness. We need your too muchness and your ramblings and your raucous laughter. We need to know the truth inside you so we have permission to stand in our own. You may not know it yet, but you are a leader, a guide and a healer. And the world needs more of you. I know I do.
So much love for you friend. You are doing a fucking INCREDIBLE job.
Love,
Rosie
