This week’s Oracle Card: The Owl
Symbology: Ancient Wisdom
“The whisper that calls after you in the night, and kisses your ear in the early light.”
~ Nancy Wilson “Crazy On You”
The Owl’s mystical, otherworldly nature is a reminder to trust our own.
It can be difficult to know what the whisper of our own true nature sounds like. To tease divine intelligence out from the maelstrom of invasive thoughts and the haunting romanticism of past experiences.
Often when I’m trying to make a decision or figure out how to move forward, I hear the voices of old teachers, the collective disappointment of a church congregation, or the scoffs of “elite” members of society from the small southern town I grew up in.
This is completely normal. These “bonus features.”
But I’m gonna let you in on a little secret:
THE VOICE OF FEAR IS NOT THE VOICE OF YOU
I’m not saying there will never be fear involved in moving towards the most realized version of yourself. I am saying that any voice that chimes out in favor of keeping you small, pinned down, or hidden behind a mask, is not the voice of the Higher Self. Other people, institutions, and societal constructs into which we have all been indoctrinated and inoculated contribute to the interior static we all experience when trying to make hard decisions. It sometimes helps me refer to the noise as “Koolaid talk.” The swishy sounds of brainwashed bunches and herd mentalities.
I don’t know about you, but, at this point in my life, I prefer the luxurious, foresty notes of Rose Tea, or the honey-sweetened, turmeric-ochred comforts of Moon Milk, to the watered-down nothingness of Koolaid.
Reflection
This week, I invite you to reflect on the whisper that calls after you in the night. The desire that lights you up and sets your belly ablaze. Maybe it’s writing that book of poetry you’ve been dreaming about for the last 25 years. Or taking a trip to Peru to study plant medicine. Or launching a creative business venture. Or making that scary vulnerable social media post. Whatever it is, take note of the quality of expansion you feel when you think about it. Does it light up your heart? Does it quicken your pulse?
And what about when the unsolicited advice kicks in? How do you feel then? Anxious? Compressed? Restricted? Bored?
And now, which feels better? The first? Or the second? There is no right answer. Just another way to access the truth.
Your bones, your cells, your DNA, your ancestors, are trying to get through to you. At every moment of every day. To cut through the bullshit and remind you of the power you possess at your glittering center. The feather of an owl. The caw of a crow. The parsnipped story of a child. A chance encounter. A glance at the clock just as it turns 11:11. Or 5:55. Or 3:33.
Stay open mama, stay open. The seed-start of your heart already contains every kernel of knowledge you will ever need.
*Please remember this: we are not here to merely survive. We are here, on a magical planet, spinning spirals across the cosmos, in order to THRIVE. To step into our power. To own the shadow and the light in order to become whole. And bring the world to collective wholeness in the process.
The Owl calls you to thrive.
Open the jungle of your ribcage
and crack Her infinite wing span wide…
